The New South Wales Branch

Posted by: Dorothea Preis   in Uncategorized

richard-iii-logoLet me introduce you to the Sydney New South Wales Branch of the Society.  Our members are drawn from all over New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, as well as several members from Queensland.  We have regular contact with branches in the other States as well as in New Zealand and in Britain and America.

Please read the Object of our branch or be introduced to the committee of our branch.

Six Saturday afternoon meetings a year are held at the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts at 280 Pitt Street, Sydney, near the Town Hall bus and train stations.  At these we have visiting speakers talking on a variety of subjects or a talk given by one of our members.  Afternoon tea is provided.

Social activities include a Coronation Lunch, Birthday Lunch, Bosworth Field Memorial Service in August, and at least one outing for a special event such as lectures organised by Heraldry Australia.  The Upcoming Events page as well as our newsletter keep members up to date with Branch activities and other information.

Ever thought about  joining our Society?  Please contact us at info@richardiii-nsw.org.au.  Joining our Branch has a number of advantages:

  • You receive the four annual issues of the Ricardian Bulletin and the annual Ricardian, published by the Richard III Society in the UK.
  • You receive the annual Chronicles of the White Rose, published by our Branch.  It contains transcripts of some of the talks presented to our branch and other interesting articles.
  • You can attend all our general meetings and the Australasian Conventions at the members’ fee, with all the interesting talks and activities presented.  You are of course welcome at all social events.
  • You have access to our extensive library containing both fiction and non-fiction books of a Ricardian/medieval context
  • And you will meet lots of friendly people who share your interst in medieval history.

Another option is to join as a Friend of our Branch.  Friends enjoy the same advantages as members, but do not receive the interesting publications from the Richard III Society in the UK.

Our branch has assisted  several high school students who chose Richard III for their History Extension Project and is always delighted to do so.  For more information please contact us at info@richardiii-nsw.org.au.  You can read an example of  such a project here.
